Claygate Primary School Autumn News

11th December 2023

Welcome

At the beginning of term we welcomed lots of new children and staff to Clubland. It has been an exciting time as we have had the opportunity to meet and get to know each other. The children have quickly settled in and have formed new friendships, which has created a warm and welcoming atmosphere at Clubland.

Our team

Our team at Clubland has grown in September with the addition of a new member of staff, Jan. Jan has seamlessly integrated into our team and has brought a fresh perspective and enthusiasm. Alongside Jan, we have Lydia as the deputy in the afternoons, Andreja as the deputy in the mornings, and Mairead and Darcy, who make up our core staff team. Together, we work collaboratively to ensure that all children feel supported and have a positive experience at Clubland. Additionally, we have other dedicated staff members who provide support whenever necessary, ensuring that our team is well-rounded and able to meet the needs of all the children.

Snack time

This term, we have been delighted to offer a wide range of delicious options for snack time every day after school. The children have been thrilled with the opportunity to choose between a hot food and a cold food option each day. Our menu has been full of exciting choices, including favorites like macaroni cheese, egg fried rice, tomato soup with garlic bread, vegetable noodles, sausages, and fish fingers. For those who prefer a cold option, we have had ham, salami, cheese, chicken, tuna & mayonnaise, as well as egg sandwiches and wraps. We believe that providing such a diverse selection not only ensures a balanced diet but also encourages the children to explore new flavors and expand their taste buds.

Our activities

We kicked off our activities by creating a wonderful new 'friendship' board. Then, we fully embraced the autumn season by engaging in a variety of forest school activities. We had a blast collecting leaves and twigs and using them to make beautiful leaf art and nature wands. Additionally, we had fun making salt dough, exploring vegetable printing, and going on an exciting nature scavenger hunt.

After the half-term break, we had a fantastic line up of events and celebrations, including Halloween, fireworks, Diwali, and stargazing. We engaged in exciting activities like making edible sparklers, crafting 3D rockets and lanterns, and even made raisins dance on World Science Day. To promote awareness and unity, we kicked off Anti-Bullying Week by wearing odd socks and created a remarkable board adorned with posters.

December

Now that December is here, we are getting into the festive spirit at Clubland. Our trees and rooms are adorned with beautiful paperchains and snowflakes. The children have eagerly created an advent calendar, and they can't wait to take turns opening a day.

On Wednesday, December 13th, we will have a fun-filled Christmas quiz for all those attending that afternoon. And on Thursday, December 14th, we will host our exciting Christmas party for those who come on Thursday afternoons. If your child is attending the party and if you would like to contribute towards the party with a food donation we would be very  grateful. As much as we love homemade cakes or savoury bits, shop brought is a lot safer for us, as they clearly label ingredients as we have some children with allergies. Please ensure anything donated is nut free.

Toy donations

The children have thoroughly enjoyed reading comics this term, if your children have any old ones that they'd like to recycle, we would greatly appreciate it if you could consider donating them to us. This way we can share them with the rest of the clubland community.
