Long Ditton Infant School News - Late Spring 2024

5th April 2024

To our Long Ditton Infant Families,

Welcome to our last newsletter of this extremely quick Spring term. I don't know where the last couple of month have gone, but we are all so happy to be having lighter mornings and lighter evenings. The excitement of what's to come definitely puts a spring in my step!

Our activities

Since the February half term we've been very busy playing inside! The children like to build marble runs and are very creative in how they assemble their runs. They have been making enclosures using our foam bricks, and a new firm favourite is K’NEX. Using their fine motor skills for this has been quite challenging for some, but it also builds their resilience. The children have also enjoyed getting comfortable in our cosy corner with a book, feeling nice and relaxed inside our den. Top trumps has become an independent group activity, and through this, the children have increased on their independent reading and number recognition.  We do enjoy puzzles, fitting all the pieces together to make the final picture, the children certainly do get self satisfaction on completing these. We can't forget dancing with 'Just dance', which is very popular. The children have their favourite songs and are always throwing suggestions to all the staff.

Outside the play is continuous and a place for the children to burn off some of their energy, as we know they always have some, even at bedtime! When they're outside, the children have the freedom to explore by themselves with equipment provided. They have footballs, tennis rackets and balls, the trim trail to test their physical skills and we have mini drivers on our didicars around the playground, some are still practicing their steering skills!

This term we have been very creative with our craft activities. We have made tulips using wooden forks, different paper animals and flowers, decorating paper air balloons and putting a lot of effort in Mother’s Day cards. To celebrate Easter we have decorated paper Easter eggs, made Easter baskets, bunny masks, paper chicks and enjoyed our traditional Easter egg hunt.

World Book Day

As the children had dressed up for World Book Day for school, we celebrated at Clubland by listening to the book 'Kindness is my Superpower'. We talked about what it means to be kind and the children shared their ideas through colouring a bucket of kind things they could do.
