Do you enjoy working with children and motivating others? We’re looking for a Deputy Manager to join our afterschool club at Long Ditton Infant & Nursery School. You’ll support the Playscheme Manager in running engaging, hands-on sessions for children aged 3–7, helping ensure every afternoon is fun, safe, and inspiring.

The Role

As Deputy Manager, you’ll:

  • Support the fun – help plan and run child-led play, crafts, cookery, outdoor games, and other activities.
  • Inspire your team – motivate and support Playworkers to create an engaging, safe, and happy environment.
  • Keep it safe & smooth – assist with safeguarding, health & safety, risk assessments, and daily club operations.
  • Build relationships – work closely with parents, carers, and school staff to support each child’s wellbeing.
  • Stay organised – help with staff rotas, stock checks, and light administrative tasks (approx. 1 hr/week).

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Creative, organised, and full of energy
  • Experienced in working with children aged 3–7 in a childcare or playwork setting
  • Confident leading a team and supporting colleagues
  • A strong communicator who can build trust with staff, children, and parents
  • Committed to keeping children safe, happy, and inspired

Essential qualification: Level 3 in Childcare or Playwork.

Desirable extras: Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, or Safeguarding training (we provide full training if needed).

 


The Practical Bits

  • Location: Long Ditton Infant & Nursery School, Surbiton
  • Hours: 14:30–18:15, Monday–Friday, term time only. Job share available.
  • Contract: Permanent, fixed hours
  • Pay: £14.05/hr starting rate, plus 12.07% holiday pay uplift (total £15.75/hr). Pay increases with training and years of service.
  • Training: First Aid and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead training included and paid for.
