Babysitting Policy

The staff and volunteers who work at Clubland can privately babysit the children.

However, Clubland is not responsible or liable for any child once they are being babysat privately by a member of staff or volunteer. If an incident were to happen whilst a member of staff was babysitting this does not affect Clubland’s insurance.

If a member of staff or volunteer lets their private babysitting interfere with their working hours this could affect their employment with Clubland. Staff should ensure that when babysitting children in their setting that your relationship with that child/ren does not change within the working environment.

Members of staff are made aware that when babysitting privately it is still their duty to report any safeguarding concerns and can follow Clubland’s safeguarding procedure or call:

All staff and volunteers who work at Clubland sign a confidentiality statement and we work in line with GDPR and are expected to keep to this whilst outside of work. If a breach in confidentiality occurs whilst babysitting, Clubland will take disciplinary action on that member of staff or volunteer.

When asking a member of staff to babysit, parents should consider whether the babysitter is first aid trained. Does the babysitter know what to do if the child becomes ill, parents do not return or are not contactable, there is a fire or a family member or stranger knocks at the door? When thinking about suitability, parents should be aware that an unqualified member of staff or one without an enhanced DBS would not be working unsupervised in the setting.

If a member of staff is asked to collect a child by a parent, the parent must give signed permission or notify the supervisor.

If parents are unhappy with the babysitting service and make a complaint about a practitioner Clubland will not follow up the complaint unless it is a safeguarding issue which will then be dealt with following our safeguarding procedure.
